What is Postcapitalism?
Postcapitalism is a theoretical economic model in which the local government (and federal government, if applicable) agree not to collect taxes in a specially designated ZERO-TAX district. This means the government must fund itself through other means. In such a district, there is absolutely ZERO mandatory taxation; this includes income tax, business tax, sales tax, property tax, etc. There is NO MANDATORY TAX whatsoever.
In a postcapitalist district, social services and other social welfare programs are funded entirely by HIGHLY INCENTIVIZED contributions from the general public, but absolutely no mandatory collections. This seems like an impossible feat for a large country or even a massive city to orchestrate. For this reason, it is managed on a local, small-scale, district level, which will typically encompass several city blocks. In the past, such a form of self-governance was not possible, however, with the advent of increasingly intelligent AI systems and Bots, this new type of economic model can be tested in a city somewhere on this planet.
Even the most well-meaning governments are wasteful with tax money. In a traditional republic, we elect representatives we HOPE will vote in alignment with our wishes, but this is far from an ideal democracy. Much of what they vote on is HOW to spend OUR TAX DOLLARS and you might be surprised at how the people you vote for, in turn, vote to spend our money. Make sure you understand the difference between a democratic republic and direct democracy before going forward.
We entrust our local, state, and federal governments to prudently spend our tax dollars, but why leave the decision up to them? Well, this is their chosen profession and we trust them with our society's money.
When was the last time you looked at how your government spends our tax dollars? It gets complicated because people around the world are part of complicated government structures. If you are a U.S. citizen, as I am, have you seen where the federal budget goes? Have you looked at the general categories of the most massive expenditures of the federal government? If someone on the street asks you for money, you instinctively want to know what they will spend it on, yet most of us have NO CLUE how our government WASTES OUR MONEY. Why is this MANDATORY collection of your hard-earned money acceptable to you without knowing what it is paying for?
What I propose is a massive simplification of government, down to the district level, before Rome collapses, if you understand me.
